Description of TWI Job Relations
Achieving results through others is a difficult and often underestimated task. Each result of the work done by supervisors is a direct result of the work done by the people supervised by the supervisors. Therefore, it is important that they have good knowledge of conflict management, attitudes and behaviors so that they can efficiently create and maintain good relations with them. This, as we know, is crucial for success in all organizations.
Usually the supervisors benefit because they are successful as good productive workers who have satisfactory technical insight into the daily work. Most first-time supervisors require training and coaching in how to prevent and handle conflicts at work. An overwhelming majority of supervisors build up their human skills by trying things out. Eventually, they learn to develop their own ways of managing situations.
The result may be that the supervisor either avoids difficult situations (conflicts in terms of managing expectations, giving feedback, giving a warning or handling resistance) or heads into difficult situations handling them in an inefficient manner. This may create fear and anger from the other party rather than motivation/willingness to cooperate. Several supervisors say about their role that they are afraid to work with people - because they have never learned to cope with these difficult situations. Through the TWI JR programs, the supervisors get the skills needed to handle these situations.
Together with TWI Job Instruction, TWI Job Relations form the basic training of your supervisors that has both helped the United States during World War II and has been used by Toyota and other Japanese companies for over 70 years to develop supervisors and an exceptional workforce. After TWI Job Relations and Job Instruction have rooted themselves with the supervisors, the application of TWI Job Methods will also help create a culture of continuous small and large process improvements (the basis of your Kaizen or Lean program).
You will learn to develop and maintain positive relations with workers and with people at every level of the organization and thus understand how to resolve conflicts when they arise - through the TWI JR 4-step method.
The course is conducted in 5x2 hours, 2 hours every day for one week. The content is a mixture of lectures, discussions and practical exercises. When the course hours are done, it is recommended that you carry out TWI JR coaching which is customized to your implementation of TWI.
You will learn:
- To develop skills in understanding individuals' handling of difficult and uncomfortable situations.
- To analyze a situation and to thoroughly understand the facts before making decisions and how to follow up these decisions - using the TWI JR 4-step conflict management method:
- Step 1: Get the facts
- Step 2: Weigh and decide
- Trin 3. Step 3: Take action
- Step 4: Check results
- To understand how to prevent conflicts - using the 4 basics of good relations:
- Let each worker know how he/she is doing
- Give credit when due
- Tell people in advance about changes that will affect them
- Make best use of each person's ability
